Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin was a French artist and key figure in the Symbolist and Post-Impressionist Movements. He was a pioneer of modern art, along with Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne. Gauguin is best known for developing Synthetism, a post-Impressionist style that used expressive colors, flat planes, and distorted forms.
